In response to advanced AOL Mail users who want more flexibility and customization, America Online is introducing AOLŪ Communicator, a standalone, advanced communications application which brings together e-mail, instant messaging, a full-featured Address Book, and personalization into one integrated application. Ideal for broadband members seeking an always-on, optimized communications package, AOL Communicator also integrates Radio@AOL for Broadband and all-new "My AOL Today" features that deliver Web content through an interactive screen saver and news ticker personalized to a member's interests.
AOL Communicator can be used seamlessly alongside the AOLŪ and AOLŪ for Broadband services, providing AOL members with a robust, full-featured communications application.
Key AOL Communicator Features
AOL Communicator offers members greater control, flexibility, and organization through a suite of advanced features that include mail, instant messaging and much more:
v Easy management of multiple mailboxes in one place allows members to read and send e-mail messages from all of their AOL Screen Names as well as standards-based e-mail accounts, such as POP and IMAP, from a single application. No more logging in to multiple accounts to check various mailboxes.
v Flexible mail management lets members organize e-mail the way they want with flexible sorting, filters and folders to keep mail organized. Members can, for example, sort by sender, date, and subject and set up filters to separate e-mail from a specific sender. Members can also view individual e-mail messages in a flexible three-pane window without the need to open separate windows for each message.
v Simplified attachments allow members to view or save e-mail attachments by simply clicking on attachment links within e-mail messages. When composing e-mail, members can also easily add attachments by dragging and dropping files onto their message, as well as insert an unlimited number of attachments within the message body.
v A full-featured Address Book keeps contact information up to date and at the member's fingertips. AOL Communicator streamlines the addressing of e-mail and instant messages with powerful features such as the ability to display contacts by a "friendly name" or nickname rather than by e-mail address. AOL Communicator's full-featured Address Book automatically synchronizes with the member's AOL Address Book, making it accessible whenever and wherever they access the AOL service.
v Intelligent spam filtering helps members automatically separate and eliminate unwanted mail by displaying spam messages in a separate color, as well as in a separate spam folder, for quick review and one-click deletion. These tools require no set up, and get even better as the member uses them, learning over time what the member considers to be spam.
v Integrated instant messaging and e-mail gives members added convenience and a "buddy-centric" approach to staying in touch with the people they communicate with most. Members can display buddies in their Buddy List window by a friendly name, e-mail address, or instant messaging Screen Name. And for added convenience, when an instant messaging buddy sends e-mail, an indicator is displayed next to the buddy's name in the Buddy List window. Clicking the indicator quickly opens the e-mail.
v The View Buddies By Name feature allows members to list buddies by their real name within their Buddy List. They have the choice to view buddies by first name, last name, nickname, e-mail address, or instant messaging Screen Name - whichever they prefer.
v Integrated Radio@AOL for Broadband provides members with their favorite music in just one click. Members can customize radio presets to their favorite Radio@AOL for Broadband stations. As members enjoy a particular song, they can share it with an IM buddy via an instant message, allowing their buddy to tune in to the same song.
v The My AOL Today Screen Saver offers a dynamic and interactive screen saver with quick access to personalized news, weather, sports, entertainment, and stocks. As headlines and images stream across the screen, members can click on stories to either view a video feed or read an article.
v The My AOL Ticker offers similar content to the My AOL Today screen saver, but in a convenient customizable ticker that streams across the member's desktop.
